Young by the Trees: when young hands heal the forests of Málaga
In Hasha we believe that nature is not just a place to go, but a place to go. From this certainty, "Young people for the Trees" is born, an educational and environmental programme that unites crafts, reforestation and youth accompaniment on the same path of care, learning and transformation.
For several months, a group of young people from institutes in the province of Málaga participated in a practical training process with a local artisan teacher from Mijas, learning to work recycled wood, to carve, to design and to create with meaning. It is not just about learning a trade, but about reconnecting with the courage of doing with your hands, with time, with respect for the material and the land that holds it.
This process is the result of 200 wooden posters, created by themselves, which are then installed in reforested areas of the Sierra de Málaga affected by fires. Posters that point to trees, that tell stories of the forest, that remember there was fire there... and now there is life again.
But "Young for the Trees" is much more than technical and signalling training. It is also:
Excursions to natural spaces to understand on the ground what it means to restore an ecosystem.
Reforestation days in collaboration with NGOs and local groups.
A Hasha notebook that accompanies each young man as a space for reflection, drawing and memory.
Through contact with nature, teamwork and community service, young people develop ecological awareness, social responsibility, self-esteem and a sense of belonging. They discover that their hands can contribute to something real, visible, lasting. They can leave a mark...
At a time when many young people feel disconnected from the environment and the future, "Youth for the Trees" proposes just the opposite: roots, action and purpose. A bridge between artisan tradition, educational innovation and land care.
From Hasha we deeply believe that educating in nature is sowing the future. And in this program, every sign, every tree, every step on the mountain, is also a seed of consciousness.
Because when a young man takes care of a tree, he also learns to take care of himself and the world he lives in.
